The Nikon Z50 is the “new kid on the block” of the Nikon Z family. The Nikon Z50 is a 20.9MP mirrorless camera: the first time the company has put an (unstabilized) APS-C sensor behind its new, larger ‘Z’ lens mount.

The Nikon Z 50 is not just a scaled down version of the Nikon Z 6 and Z 7. Nikon has done a remarkable job of giving such a small camera such a solid one-handed grip. For our Dental Photography shooting we used the same equipment as with the Z7 and Z6: Nikon 85mm macro DX lens mounted on the FTZ adapter, two SB200 mounted on an Owl bracket and the SU800 to control the two flashes. On the picture below we removed the SU 800 just to get a nicer image.

The quality of the images comes pretty close to that of the big brothers Z6 and Z7. The camera is missing the in camera image stabilization. This is not an issue for flash photography at all.

We can recommend the Z50 as a good camera body for dental photography at a very competitive price.
